Minimum Wavelength for Optimal Waveband in WDM Network Using Mesh Topology

چکیده
ABSTRACT: An optical cross-connect can be achieved by grouping together a set of consecutive wavelengths and switching them as a single waveband. This technique is known as waveband switching. This paper focus on the number of wavebands and their sizes for ring topologies. It presents a novel framework for optimizing the number of wavebands in a ring network for deterministic traffic. The objective of the Band Minimization Problem is to minimize the number of non uniform wavebands in the network while using the minimum possible number of wavelengths. I have considered a specific type of traffic, namely all-to-all traffic, and present a construction method for achieving the minimum number of wavebands in the ring. The results show that the number of ports can be reduced by a large amount using waveband switching compared to wavelength switching, for both all-to-all traffic and random traffic. And also numerically evaluate the performance of our waveband design algorithms under dynamic stochastic traffic.

An Algorithm for Waveband Routing and Wavelength Assignment in Hierarchical WDM Mesh Networks
Aggregation of wavelengths into wavebands is an attractive, cost-efficient way to facilitate switching and routing in optical networks. In this paper, we study the waveband routing and wavelength assignment (WRWA) tasks in hierarchical WDM mesh networks with optical crossconnects that can route multiple granularity (wavelengths and wavebands) at the same time. We solve the waveband routing and ...

In this paper, we extend design based routing (DBR), which is originally proposed for opaque wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks without waveband switching (WBS), to transparent WDM networks with WBS. We formulate and solve the corresponding integer linear programming (ILP) problems to facilitate the use of DBR for transparent WDM networks with WBS, referred to as DBR with Waveband ...

We compare the effectiveness of uniform versus non-uniform waveband switching under the dual cost metrics of switching requirements and fiber capacity. We consider a star topology and begin by characterizing the optimal performance frontier achievable under no restrictions on waveband sizing, and provide algorithms employing non-uniform waveband sizing that approach or achieve this optimum. We ...
متن کاملDynamic Hybrid Topology Design for Integrated Traffic Support in WDM Mesh Networks (Invited Paper)
The future Internet will require the transport of a wide range of services including high bandwidth one-to-many applications, with a dynamic interconnection of devices. WDM layer support realizes such services in a transparent, reliable and efficient way. Most of the recent studies have been focused on efficiently building and configuring light-paths for unicast or light-trees for multicast in ...
متن کاملTraffic grooming in an optical WDM mesh network
In wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks, the bandwidth request of a traffic stream can be much lower than the capacity of a lightpath. Efficiently grooming low-speed connections onto high-capacity lightpaths will improve the network throughput and reduce the network cost. In WDM/SONET ring networks, it has been shown in the optical network literature that by carefully groomin...
